how-to-get-link-authorityAuthority sites are the ones that you “really” want to get links on, but have no idea how to get.  Like say a link on CNN, where would you even start?  Well, there are some methods that can be used to successfully create a web presence for yourself and after doing some research, propose a link to your site with a great response rate.

Authority sites simply pass on more link juice than sites that have less of a presence on the internet.  You may be able to grab links on sites like facebook and twitter pretty easily and yes these are considered to be authority sites.  However, how can you get links on education site or government sites?  Well, most of us really don’t know.  Getting quality back links on sites like these can really make a big impact on your search engine standings, because these sites outbound links are seen as “official” and are respected by the search engines algorithm.  So you need to be getting these links if you want to take your search engine optimization skill set to the next level.

The information I am sharing below comes from a post on a forum, so before we get to the meat of this post, let me give credit where credit is due.

There are other ways to get these authority site links pointing to your webpage, you may want to take a look at the Webmaster Business Plan section on link building for more info on this topic or even visit good old View SEO.  So enough fluff, lets get to these killer internet marketing techniques!

How To Get Links On Authority Sites

This is my small gift to the SEO Chat community from whom i learn a lot. I wrote this article in December of 2009 and hope that it hasn’t become outdated since search industry is changing every second. I like teaching (although it should not be confused with preaching) and sharing knowledge. I used to teach C, C++ (programming language) to 1st year engineering students (as a tutor and not in the college) some 6 years back when i myself was a student and since then have got this bug  Consequently i understand different type of loops (for, while and do while loop), functions, parameters, conditional statements and above all program logic. I am sharing this info with you to let you know that it helps me a lot in understanding the code and in dealing with web developers. And i think it will equally help you if you could spend sometime in learning a programing language and its syntax esp. some server side language like PHP. Anyways back to the subject of authority sites.

As a seo we heard of authority sites a lot. Get back links from authority sites to boost rankings. But what are authority sites. How to identify them? Is there a way to find out what is authority and what is not? The answer is yes. There is a way to find out (although not a guaranteed way). Authority sites are those websites which have got back links from large number of different domains and majority of these domains are based on same/similar topic as the linked to domain. For e.g. a website on ‘Car Insurance’ can be considered as an authority on ‘Car insurance’ if it has got backlinks from large number of different domains and majority of these domains are based on car insurance or other insurance topics. Now the question that comes up is, how to identify authority sites. Do they scream i am authority, got a label of authority or is there some other identification mark.

Following are some ways to perceive the authority of a website

1. Authority sites have generally very high ranking on Google for your industry or primary keywords.

2. Websites which authority sites frequently link out to, can also be considered authoritative.

3. Websites which are talked about a lot in your industry are generally authoritative. You can find such sites through industry blogs, industry magazines and industry news publishing sites.

4. Websites with heavy user engagement (like lot of comments, reviews, ratings, page views, heavy users’ activity or large membership base) in your industry can also be considered to be authoritative.

5. Authority sites generally have very high Page Rank (PR >=6).

6. Authority sites generally have very strong back link profile which you can determine through tools like linkdiagnosis.com

7. Authority sites generally have high domain moz rank (>=6) which you can determine through tools like linkscape.

8. Authority sites have back links from large number of root domains which can again be determined through tools like linkscape

Following sites are generally perceived to be authoritative: Elementay & Seconday Schools Sites , Community Colleges sites, Technical & Vocational Schools, educational institutions which provide higher education, government department sites, research councils sites, public library sites, chamber of commerce sites, non-profit organizations sites etc.

3 Golden Rules to get back links from authority sites

1. Establish yourself as an authority- Do it before you ask for a link. Do you really deserve a link from an authority site? If deep down inside you know, the answer is ‘NO’, then most probably you won’t be getting it either. Speak at major industry conferences and write in major industry journals to establish your authority and become known/popular among your potential linking partners.

2. Socialize & Build Personal Relationship- Do it with key persons of the target authority sites for long term link building benefits. Organize/participate in Industry conferences, seminars, exhibitions, workshops and meetups to socialize offline. Remember SEO is just another form of marketing. The more you will market yourself, the better. Social media sites (like blogs, forums, community groups, social networking sites ) are excellent way of socializing online. While socializing online, don’t ignore the viral connectors (like top diggers, top stumblers or people with large fan/subscriptions/members base). These guys can instantly make your contents viral.

3. Determine content needs- Determine content needs of your potential linking sites, develop killer contents and tools to satisfy those needs and then make your potential linking partners aware of them.

Biggest SEO mistake in link acquisition from authority sites

It is to ask for a back link without following the aforesaid link acquisition rules. If you don’t trust me, then just go ahead and try to get a back link from authority site. Your link request will either get deleted or ignored.

How do you get links from authority sites? Pls share.

New SEO Link Building Sources

seo-link-building

Are you looking for an easy high PR back link?

Well, if you want to get more from your seo efforts, you know that you need high quality back links on sites that are relevant to your niche topic. The site I am talking about today is called Twine. I have been using this site for networking and for link development for a while. It seems to be a great place to meet some new people and do some link building too.

Solid links with good anchor text mixed with some simple automated link building services can be a way to boost your sites exposure overnight. Ping.fm which I discussed in a previous article found here “Social Marketing Made Easy“, I discussed how you can automate your updates to over 30 different social networks, but how about these static sites?  I am not going to get into the “how fast is too fast” link building argument.  I am just going to tell you what I have seen from my personal experiences with developing site traffic and favorable search engine listings.  You should be careful how fast you build links, but being consistent with your weekly pace is more important in the long run.

There are not to many sites that have this high of Google page rank that just give away good links and allow you to leave a full description and screenshot of your site.  Digg no longer produces as much “link juice” in Google, but sites like this one and Kontain are starting to take hold and are showing some surprising “sticky” power in the search engines. So now is the time to take advantage of these new linking methods, while they are still valid! Google’s algorithmic change that they call “caffeine” has left a lot of seo experts looking for the next way to get notices and this may be just what you have been looking for.

I have just recently started testing with some sites on Twine.com but I can already see that this site is going to be one that I will be putting in my marketing arsenal for sure.  So make sure to take a look at this site and start creating your own niche link groups here to see if you can get Google to shine it’s light on your site.  Link building must be done on different sites, but if you are looking to get indexed quick or  just build some new links, this is a good place to start

Twine is a valid PR 6 web site and you can use this site as a social bookmarking site. So it only makes since to make “Twines” or small niche groups to post within. That is exactly what I have done and you can capitalize on my efforts. You can create your own groups or “twines” here too.

So Here It Is

Free Back Links For The Taking, I recently created these new twines, all you have to do is join for free and put your site in the right category to get your PR6 Back Link.

RSS - http://www.twine.com/twine/1320yhzdm-37q/rss
Movies - http://www.twine.com/twine/1322zf104-3j9/movies

Travel - http://www.twine.com/twine/138vnnhj0-2fc/travel

Weight Loss Help - http://www.twine.com/twine/139b4mhg3-1zq/weight-loss-help

I will be adding some new groups shortly.  If you have a topic that you would like me to add here, just let me know and I will do so.  If you have any questions or comments leave them here or you are welcome to contact me on twine as well.

Kontain – This site is cool for few reasons and is becoming one of my favorite places to spend my time when it comes to social networks.  However, this high PR site has got some crazy link juice on Google so it is another great place to get some back links to your site.  I would create an account here and start getting the most out of your links today!

Enjoy adding your links into these awesome groups and feel free to connect with me here too.

Link Wheel SEO and Traffic

Posted by on Feb 1, 2010 in Link Building, Social Marketing, Web Site Promotion, Webmaster Business Plan | 38 comments

Are you using a link wheel to raise your traffic and boost your seo efforts?

If you are not, you should be, the link wheel concept seems to be one of the most solid techniques out there to start getting some relevant and very targeted traffic to any website.  There are no expenses involved in building your own powerful link wheel, this is another reason seo experts love this method.  It seems that this is one of the most talked about techniques in the seo world recently.

Yes, link wheels are a great way to get some free traffic an they can be implemented in a few hours time.  You need to understand what a link wheel is first, then you can start using the power of a link wheel on your site or to drive traffic to an affiliate product.  The concept is simple but setting up an effective link wheel may take a little more effort.

Are Link Wheels The Best Free Traffic and SEO Method?

Here on Webmaster Business Plan we discuss many different methods to generate traffic to your website and most of the time we try to keep all the information on the free side.   The link wheel concept is no different, you can put together an seo friendly, traffic getting link wheel in no time at all and it will cost you nothing but a little effort.  We don’t like to use terms like “best” anything, but this sure is one powerful force to be reckoned with as far as search engine optimization and traffic generation.  So, for now this is at least our favorite methods to get some serious traffic, maybe not the best but damn close!

So What Is The Basic Concept Of A Link Wheel?

The basic concept of a link wheel is nothing more than creating multiple Web 2.0 properties on the Internet that inner link to each other and also link out to your main website or “money site” and in effect make a wheel of sites that link together.  There are complete products that are nothing more than explaining this process with a couple pictures.  We believe you can find better things to spend you money on, so we are going to explain it all here and give you a chance to compete with the big boys in any niche by grabbing some serious traffic with the power of your own link wheel.

If you can imaging you main site in the middle of a circle or wheel and sites like blogger, squidoo, hubpages and wetpaint surrounding your site this is how it starts.  Now each of the sites surrounding yours will link in to your site and then link to the next free blog or web 2.0 site.  So blogger would link to your main page and would also link out to your squidoo lens.  Squidoo would link to your site and then link out to your hub on hubpages and so on.

Why Are Link Wheels Effective?

Well, there are a couple reasons for this.  The main reason that these become very effective as far as google and other search engines are concerned is that the sites that you are going to setup for external linking are considered authority sites.  You know, sites with high page rank and ones that are used as part of the search engines “social indexing”.  Yes, these authority sites pack a real punch when it comes to search engine optimization and when you link multiple authority sites to each other and they are all linking out to your site, guess what, the search engines let little old you, share a little of that authority!

Keywords And Link Wheels

Understand that just because you have setup a few blogs really fast, you are not out of the woods yet.  The keywords you focus on are just as important here as they are anywhere else.  If you focus on some low competition keywords you will be sure to get ranked fast, but you can shoot a little higher on the competitive keyword target, because after all you do want some keyword phrases that will bring you some good traffic.

Once you have decided on your keyword phrase, you will wan to get your keywords in your blog addresses, lens urls and so on.  Also you will want to make sure that you are using variations of your keyword phrase in all of your link’s anchor text.  You may want to use a few long tail keyword phrases and then focus in on your main keyword set.  This is a good way to keep the links mixed up and still give the focus to the correct term as you are developing your link wheel.

How Many Web 2.0 Sites Do I Need In My Link Wheel?

Ultimately this really is up to you.  You can build a very small, simple link wheel with three to four external blogs, but you may want to continue to grow your link wheel through time.  The more external web 2.0 sites you include in your link wheel will help re-inforce the link strength to your main site, but also can drive some healthy direct traffic to your sites as well. The power of the link wheel is 2 fold, keeping people in a loop of your own information until they end up on your main site and hopefully buy.  Secondly, you are building an authority presence on the search engines, so you will benefit in raised google rankings for your keyword phrase.  So, there is no reason to limit yourself to four sites in your link wheel, when you could have as many as you like.

A More Effective Link Wheel

If you really want to get the most out of your link wheel, you may have to make some more mini link wheels on the outside.  This means nothing more that adding social bookmarking to each of your Web 2.0 sites or blogs you are using as your main feeder sites on the link wheel. Since you can only add one link to a social bookmarking post, you really cannot expand the theory of the link wheel using these sites.  However, you can reinforce the strength of each of your new inbound link properties by giving each of them some exposure on these hugely popular and high page ranked sites like digg, stumbleupon, mixx, reddit and others.

So What Does A Link Wheel Look Like?

Well everybody has a different take on what an effective link wheel should look like.  I have found many different ideas on the net, most of these are free on flicker, but I have saved these so long ago, I do not have the accurate credits to give here, so I do apologize for that.

Here are some of the best visual examples of link wheels out there.  You can take any of them and put them to use in your online business instantly or you can study them all and choose one you want to follow.

Top 5 Paid Directories

Posted by on Jan 20, 2010 in Link Building, Web Site Promotion, Webmaster Business Plan | 4 comments

paid-directory-listingsWell everybody wants to get their web site or blog listed in as many free directories as possible.  This is great, but what most webmasters are not thinking about is quality.  The only value a web directory can offer is quality listings and some page rank on the directory that you are to be listed on.  If you use free directories you may be able to get your link on a page that has some PR, but this is not everything.  You need to be aware that free directories do not have the motivation to keep the structure of their site up to date and remove dead links from their listings.

If Google finds you link on a page that has good page rank, but your link is surrounded by dead links, this will not look very appetizing to Google.  You need to understand that the quality of the directory is “as” important if not more important than the PR of it’s pages.   This is why in many cases the most valuable directory listings to get involved with are not free.  The money spent is many times turned over to those who keep the directory up to date and continue site maintenance to assure that each and every link on the directory site is active and accurate.  Just like anything else, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to buying a spot on a top website directory.

If you are ready to get serious and take your website to the next level by spending some money to get a high quality back link to you, here is our own top 5 paid directory listing list.

Top Ten Paid Directories (Domain – Page Rank – Price)

  1. Yahoo.com PR 8 – $299
  2. Business.com PR 7 $199
  3. Best of the Web PR 7 $69-$300
  4. JoeAnt.com PR6 $39.99
  5. MassiveLinks.com PR4 $39.99 – $79.99

There are other directories out there, but these are the ones that stick out and seem to have the cleanest and most up to date listings on the web.  We don’t think you will find better value anywhere else, but if you do run across a paid directory that you think deserves to be listed here, simply leave a comment or contact me and I will be sure to consider it as an addition to the list of the top 5 paid directories here on Webmaster Business Plan.

Good luck with your site listing and we hope the list of useful resources above can help bring your website traffic to the next level.  Even successful websites can use a boost and these site have proved to be among the top directories out there.

Effective Blog Commenting Strategies

Posted by on Jan 3, 2010 in Link Building, Web Site Promotion, Webmaster Business Plan | 23 comments

effective-blog-commentingGenerating traffic to your web site, blog or affiliate site can be done very effectively, simply by commenting on other blogs.  The problem that many face when it comes to blog commenting is that they do not understand how to find the correct blogs to comment on and do not understand what a good blog comment is. I am going to try to cover these 2 topics of common misconception and some other tips on blog commenting that are sure to drive more traffic to your web site or blog in the days and weeks to come.

Don’t worry it is fairly simple to get a big result from blog commenting, you just have to know what you are doing and you can really get some traffic and results in the search engines in no time flat.  So let’s get to it…

So What Is Blog Commenting?

Well, simply put blog commenting is the process of joining the conversation on blogs, instead of using email or popular social networks.  The main feature that makes a web site become a blog, is the ability of visitors to add there own comments, thoughts or questions to the site.  You may have seen a long string of comments at the bottom of a post on a web site before and this is the comments section. Anybody can submit comments on blog post, however in most cases only the best will actually be published live on the site.  Depending on the blog owner, your comments may be automatically posted or they may go to the admin for review first.

Why Do I Want To Comment On Blogs?

Commenting on blogs is a great way to get known as an expert on any topic, to get more exposure to your site and to build your brand.  You can comment on specific blogs to grow you brand and also get free back links pointing to your product site, affiliate program or personal web site.  You will see many Internet marketers using this as a fast and free way to get more back links and get more traffic to the sites of their choosing.  The reason you see so many people suggesting this as a link building technique is simple, it works.  There are very few ways to get so many links put on web sites that have a good PR rating for free.  Most sites charge to have a link added to their blog roll.  However, having a good link in a comment section of a blog can drive some quality direct traffic and also give you valid back link for Google to pick up on as well.

So How do I Find Good Blogs To Comment On?

You can find blogs by using Google’s blog search.  This is probably the simplest way to find blogs that you can comment on.  However, there are a couple more factors that will prove to be important, besides the topic and content theme of the blog you comment on.  One thing that will be very important if you are wanting to get a high quality back link, is the Page Rank of the blog  you will be commenting on.  You can install the Google toolbar on Fire Fox or on Internet Explorer to see what the blogs PR is quickly and easily.  Now finally, you want to check and see if the links in the blog comments are “do-follow” or “no-follow” links.  You can find a few tools that will help you with this or in Fire Fox you can simply right click on the link and choose properties to check it.

There are also a couple of applications out there that seem to work well for this, if you want to know more about them, just contact me and I would be glad to share.

What Do Do When Blog Commenting

  1. Post On Recent Posts – Being the first or one of the first to comment on a new post can really get you more attention than being the one who posted the 25th comment on a post.
  2. Write Something Useful – Nobody cares about the guy who say “great post” or “thanks for sharing”  these are the comments you can buy for penny from India and these are not what get attention in readers eyes or from the site owners.
  3. Speak To The Blog Owners and Readers – These are your target market, when it comes to commenting.  So don’t just speak out into thin air, talk to the folks who will be reading your comment.
  4. Add Value – This should be the main concern when writing a blog comment.  If you are not adding value to the conversation or giving something of interest that is on topic, do not expect your blog comment to get published by the blog owner.
  5. Get Attention! – Yes, just like any good writing, you need to grab the readers attention and if you do this, you blog commenting campaign will prove to be very successful!

What Not To Do When Blog Commenting

  1. Drop links – Putting links in the comment itself is simply not proper commenting etiquette, you link should be listed as your web site and will link to the name you leave on the comment.
  2. Make Spelling Mistakes – Spelling errors may seem to be a very minor issue to you, but to some people reading your comment this may be the difference between a click through and scrolling on to the next comment.  Your writing should represent you, so it should concise and spelled correctly.
  3. Talk Down About Post – If your not going to make a positive comment, don’t waste your time. If you are talking down about the web site, web site owner or the post itself, your post will never get published in the first place, so move on.
  4. Spam A Blog – One comment at a time is plenty.  If you put a comment on ten different posts, this not only looks suspicious but is!  So one at a time, if you like the blog and want to put more than one comment, bookmark it and come back later.
  5. Long Comments – You may need to write more than one sentence to get your point across, but understand that usually only the first few lines of a comment will show by default, so get the goods out first, if you have to make it a long one.

I hope you enjoyed this article and if you want to get a blog comment on a PR2 webmaster site, comment below or you can go to the homepage of the site and post a comment there. If you follow my rules above, I promise to publish you!

To Success,

Guaranteed Traffic – Keyword Carpet Bombing!

Posted by on Dec 18, 2009 in Link Building, Web Site Promotion, Webmaster Business Plan | 6 comments

guaranteed-free-traffic-keyword-carpet-bombingDo you wish there was a way to get guaranteed traffic to your blog?  Are you picking out winning keywords and still not able to get traffic to your site?  Do you check all the right places to find competition on your keyword phrases, but still cannot get ranked for them?

Well trust me, you are not alone.  This is one of the most frustrating problems for webmasters and Internet marketers alike.  If you are putting in the work and simply not getting the results, trust me I know exactly how you feel and I have definitely been through this.  However, I do have some helpful hints to get your past this “bump in the road” and back on track with your internet marketing efforts.

I was recently asked a question on a forum that I frequent “I have done my keyword research and have submitted my info to squidoo and ezinearticles, but I am not getting ranked, I feel like I am missing something?”

Well, the conversation on the forum was about different methods of keyword research that different people use.  There are many different methods that people use and some are obviously more effective than others. The problem it turned out was not finding the right keyword to use, but how to market the site and get link exposure with the keyword term that this member was trying to focus on.

If you do not understand what keyword research is, join our mailing list here and you will get a link to some videos that will help out with this.  For those of you who are already doing some keyword research and then trying to focus your link building efforts to get ranked for those keywords, I will give you the same reply I posted in the forum.  If you do not know what keyword research is and do not fully understand link building and anchor text yet, please do not proceed with the steps below!
The methodology I will explain is very quick and dirty seo, but when it comes down to it I have used these exact steps to successfully launch many a profitable site and I know these will work for you too.  All you have to do is apply the steps and keep mixing up your keyword phrase in relevant long tail keyword phrases and You Will Get Results!

Write one new article, get your keyword or a variation of it in the title, body, keyword tags and make a link with the same or variant of your keywords in the post, to the post. Do Not make the keyword spammed throughout, make it natural and make this one of the best posts you ever wrote, this is the gold nugget that you are going to trade for traffic!

Publish this, take your rss feed over to http://feedburner.com, burn it, then get over to http://pingoat.com

Now that you are at http://pingoat.com submit both your website feed and the feedburner feed, with a slight variation in the title, but still Keep Your Keywords In There Too.

Next it is time to do some social bookmarking, get over to:

http://digg.com
http://stumbleupon.com
http://reddit.com
http://mixx.com

and bookmark you new post, do this at different times of the day, not all at once.

Now, write you up a small 300-500 word article and post it on all article directories( http://ezinearticles.com http://goarticles.com http://articledashboard.com ), authority sites( http://squidoo.com http://hubpages.com http://facebook.com http://knol.google.com )and as many blogs that you can(heres the blog submitter I use, it’s free)then time to get your article on some authority blogs, say hello to http://blogger.com http://blog.com http://fortuneboard.com and http://posterous.com

Everywhere you submit you article you need to make sure that you can get at least one link with a variation of your keyword in the article or do not waste your time there.

You may also want to spend some time on popular social sites telling people about the new post, Google loves to see some traffic to a page that it is going to rank. I suggest you use http://ping.fm to multiply your efforts here.

I know this sounds like you are going to be carpet bombing the web with info and Yes that is the idea. If you want to be noticed by Google, give them something to look at!

This can be done all in one day, but I suggest you spread it out over a few days or even a weeks time, because after all you don’t want to scare Google with to many new links all at once.  Now once you have completed these simple steps, just wash, rinse and repeat; you will be guaranteed results.

That is if you have chosen a worthy keyword!

more-blog-trafficWell I can tell you if you do the things I spoke of above, you will get traffic! There is no question about it, you will be able to see some immediate traffic from direct click through visitors. However, more importantly, if you use good anchor text and keep mixing up the long tail terms, you will be able to sustain some rather healthy traffic from the search engines as well.

You can look at any of the big name products, video series or guru reports; they all will focus in on one of the sections of info above and build a whole product around it, but you know what, you don’t need to spend $300 dollars to take some logical steps toward your success online. When it comes down to it, there are only 2 things that online marketing comes down to, Distribution and Target Market. Everything else is simply smoke and mirrors.

Now, I will say that much like exercising, some people really do need to make a huge investment in a product to remind them that they need to exercise, however I hope you can find you motivation elsewhere :-)

I hope that this quick little synapses helps some internet marketer or webmaster take there website traffic and online business to the next level.  As always feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this or any article of mine and I would be glad to assist in any way that I can.

To Success,

Nick Simpson
