The resolution to this issue is using a little known server trick called domain forwarding. You may have heard of this and just never known what it was or what it did. There are many different things you can do with a domain name. You can point it to name servers for hosting it yourself, you can park it and try to collect some revenue from ads or in this case you can forward your name to the affiliate link you are trying to promote. This action can be done by going into your registrar and setting up a domain forward. Most registrars will also allow you to mask the domain too.

This allows you to forward something like www.buycoolstuff.com to www.coolstuffsite.com/members/?aff_id=953 and when a visitor goes to your link they see the content delivered from the long address, but they will only see your short address in the address bar of their browser.

This is a great way for affiliate marketers to send the readers of their content directly to the page that is going to pay them. However, depending on your own marketing plan it may be more important to build up your own web site’s popularity in the search engines. If you are not already using the Google Webmaster Tools I highly suggest you start now.  The Google Webmaster Tools service has now released a new feature to allow webmasters like you and me to get a glimpse into the behind the scenes view of the Google search world.

Now you can actually enter any web page or domain name and have the Google Bot manually download and Display what it sees!  This is amazing if you are into search engine optimization, because now you there will be no question of what is getting indexed on your page.  You can be assured of what scripts are or are not search engine friendly because you can actually SEE what is being pulled from each page on your web site.

Of course this will be more important to people running many scripts or have many layers on their sites, if you are using a simple html page, you can pretty much see how google will see your site by loading it in a normal web browser.   However, I thought that this would come in handy for anybody that wants to know what google is really taking away from your website and trying to boost their own web site traffic and search engine standings.
